Prof. Cogen Bohanec, PhD

Dr. Bohanec holds a PhD in Historical and Cultural Studies of
Religion from GTU and an MA in Buddhist Studies from
the Institute of Buddhist Studies.

He specialises in Sanskrit language and literature,
Jain and Hindu traditions, and philosophy of religion.

He is the author of Bhakti Ethics, Emotions and Love in
Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava Metaethics
(Lexington, 2024) and the
co-editor of Engaged Jainism: Critical and Constructive
Studies of Jain Social Engagement
(SUNY 2025).

Can I receive university credit for this course?
This depends on your institution. Students may be able to apply for language credit through their home school's Domestic Transient Study program. Approval is at the discretion of your university's administration. There is precedent for credit being granted through similar non-accredited intensive programs. We recommend speaking with your academic advisor before enrolling.
Do I need prior Sanskrit experience?
No. The course starts from the foundations and builds systematically. No prior Sanskrit is required.
What is the course schedule?
Live sessions run Monday – Friday, 5:00 - 7:15 PM Pacific Time, June 15 – August 7, 2026. 90 hours total.
What textbook is used?
Devavāṇīpraveśikā by Goldman & Goldman (1980). Enrollment details will include instructions on obtaining it.
What do I receive on completion?
A certificate of completion from Arihanta Institute.
Are session recordings available?
Yes. All sessions are recorded and made available to enrolled students in two formats: in-person classroom recordings and virtual class recordings. Recordings will be accessible for 3 months after the course. Please note that recordings are for enrolled students only and are not available for download.
